Cache-Cache

Hiding from my lover’s children

A happy family then pretending 

All in innocence and laughter 

Unforeseen the sudden ending

Somewhere in another life

I played it with my children too 

Until they could no longer find me

I had simply vanished from their view

Now I play it with a friend’s son 

Abandoned by his feckless mother

Gone to find herself she said

With another younger lover 

And in all the hiding places

In my head and in my heart 

I still hold my breath in silence 

And I still try and play my part
