Demotivation

It says behind the goalposts that every child’s a champion

But although there is no I in team there is always one in captain

That somehow everyone’s a winner I fail to understand 

Perhaps I just need to fail better or to make requests and not demands

Like politicians whose pledges become mere aspirations

Bereft of any answers to the poverty of nations 

I am not exceptional in fact I’m judgemental and myopic 

And as if you didn’t know by now more than a little misanthropic
